Nigeria Launches “Thank A Soldier” Program to Connect Citizens with Military Heroes

The Defence Minister, Mohammed Badaru, has unveiled a new digital initiative, “Thank A Soldier,” designed to link Nigerians with serving military personnel and the families of fallen soldiers.

Announced during a press briefing in Abuja, the program forms part of activities planned for the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day. Citizens can access the interactive platform via a QR code to send personalized messages of gratitude and tributes to members of the Armed Forces.

The 2026 celebration, themed “Valour, Sacrifice, and Unity: Honouring Our Heroes,” aims to provide Nigerians an opportunity to reflect on and acknowledge the sacrifices made by the military in preserving national peace and sovereignty.

Minister Badaru highlighted that the festivities will strengthen ties between civilians and the military through remembrance ceremonies, community service projects, and initiatives that promote national unity. Key events include the National Emblem Appeal launch by President Bola Tinubu on November 27, interfaith services, a day of humanitarian activities, a national symposium, and a wreath-laying ceremony on January 15, 2026.

This year’s program also seeks to engage youth and civil society groups to boost civic responsibility and foster greater national pride.
