Immigration officers at a Nigerian airport have reportedly seized the international passport of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central.

The lawmaker disclosed the development in a live Facebook broadcast on Tuesday morning, alleging that the action was carried out on the orders of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.

Akpoti-Uduaghan said she was scheduled to travel for a short break after celebrating her second year in office but was stopped when officials withheld her passport.

She stated that she had committed no offence and that there was no court order authorising the seizure of her travel document.

The senator also recalled that a similar incident had occurred in the past, during which an airport official allegedly told her that the instruction to confiscate her passport came from the Senate President.

As of the time of filing this report, neither the Nigeria Immigration Service nor the Office of the Senate President had commented on the allegation.
