The National Sports Commission (NSC) has concluded a two-day inspection of sporting facilities in Lagos as part of its assessment process to determine the host city for the 2026 National Youth Games (NYG).
During the inspection, officials of the Commission visited key venues across the state, including stadiums and training complexes, to evaluate their readiness in terms of infrastructure, capacity, accessibility, and compliance with international standards.
The NSC noted that the exercise was necessary to ensure that whichever city is awarded hosting rights would be fully prepared to provide athletes with a world-class environment for competition and development.
Lagos, which has previously hosted several national and international sporting events, is among the cities bidding for the 2026 Games. The inspection team is expected to submit a comprehensive report to the Commission’s board before a final decision is announced.
The National Youth Games, introduced in 2013, is Nigeria’s flagship multi-sport event for discovering and nurturing young talents. The 2026 edition is expected to feature thousands of athletes from across the federation competing in various sporting disciplines.
