The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request to proceed on his annual leave from August 10 to September 11, 2026, paving the way for Deputy Governor Adebayo Lawal to serve as Acting Governor during the period.
The approval was granted during Thursday’s plenary after the governor formally notified the Assembly in line with constitutional provisions requiring a governor to notify the legislature whenever he intends to be away from office.
Deputy Speaker Muhammed Fadeyi, who presided over the sitting in the absence of Speaker Adebo Ogundoyin, read the governor’s letter to members. The lawmakers unanimously granted the request, expressing confidence in the seamless continuity of governance under the deputy governor.
According to the governor’s letter, he will officially resume office on September 14, 2026.
Speaking after the approval, Deputy Speaker Fadeyi wished the governor a peaceful and refreshing leave, adding that the legislature remains committed to sustaining cordial relations with the executive arm in the interest of Oyo residents.
Other lawmakers commended Governor Makinde for complying with the Constitution by formally notifying the House, describing it as a demonstration of respect for the rule of law and democratic governance.
