The Lagos State Government has commenced a new registration exercise to capture poor and vulnerable households not covered in its previous database, as part of efforts to deepen social protection and welfare delivery in the state.
The exercise, coordinated by the Ministry of Economic Planning and Budget under the supervision of the Commissioner, Mr. Ope George, was officially launched at Ajibola Community Development Area (CDA) in Ikosi-Isheri Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Kosofe Local Government.
Speaking at the event, the Director of the Social Protection Coordinating Department, Mrs. Oluwakemi Garbadeen-Adedeji, who represented the Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Olayinka Ojo, reaffirmed government’s commitment to ensuring that support reaches those who need it most. She explained that the fresh registration would enable the state to identify and assist households that were excluded during the initial exercise.
In his remarks, the Chairman of Ajibola CDA, Alhaja Arikawe Adewale, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for prioritising social protection programmes, describing the initiative as a welcome intervention for communities in need.
Officials say the updated database will strengthen the state’s ability to implement targeted welfare policies and scale up interventions for the most vulnerable residents.
