Senate President Godswill Akpabio has returned to Nigeria after a brief vacation in London, putting to rest speculation about his health status.

In recent days, social media had been awash with rumours alleging that the Senate President was critically ill and hospitalised abroad. However, in a statement from his media office, Akpabio clarified that he had only travelled for a short break and has since resumed his official duties in the country.

Addressing journalists upon his return, Akpabio dismissed the reports of ill health as false and mischievous, describing them as a deliberate attempt to cause unnecessary tension. He reaffirmed his commitment to the responsibilities of his office and assured Nigerians that the 10th National Assembly under his leadership would remain focused on delivering meaningful legislation to support the policies and programmes of the federal government.

“Let me assure Nigerians that I am well, healthy, and fully prepared to continue serving the nation. The stories circulating on social media about my health are baseless fabrications,” he stated.

Political observers note that Akpabio is not the first high-ranking public officer to be targeted by health-related rumours, a recurring theme in Nigeria’s political discourse. His return is expected to calm concerns within political circles and reaffirm stability in the leadership of the Senate.
