In a bold move by President Bola Tinubu led Administration to boost the country’s technical and vocational education sector, the Federal Ministry of Education has announced the launch of a tuition-free training program for teachers in technical schools.
The 2025/2026 Technical Teachers Training Programme (TTTP) is a one-year Post-Graduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) designed to upgrade the skills of secondary school teachers handling technical and vocational subjects across Nigeria.
The program, which was unveiled at the ministry’s Department of Technology and Science Education in Abuja, is part of the government’s renewed commitment to strengthening Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) in the country.
By equipping teachers with modern pedagogical skills and aligning their knowledge with contemporary industry standards, the program aims to “re-energise TVET” and improve the quality of teaching in technical fields.
The TTTP application portal will be open from July 8, 2025, to July 21, 2025, and eligible participants include teachers currently teaching technical or vocational subjects in public secondary technical schools or colleges, with at least five years of service left before retirement.
The program will cover a wide range of fields, including Technical Education, Vocational Education, Building Technology Education, Business Education, Home Economics & Hospitality, Agricultural Education, Automobile, Computer Science Education, and Electrical/Electronics, among others.
A pilot cohort will be implemented in partnership with six universities: Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; University of Nigeria, Nsukka; Federal University of Technology, Minna; University of Benin; Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi; and Adeyemi Federal University of Education, Ondo. By better preparing students for 21st-century industry needs, the program is expected to ensure Nigeria’s workforce remains competitive globally.
This initiative is a testament to the government’s commitment to investing in the country’s human capital and promoting economic development through education.
The program is expected to have a positive impact on the quality of technical education in Nigeria, and ultimately contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
