The Labour Party has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, to formally resign from the party.
This comes after Obi’s decision to join a coalition party aimed at unseating President Tinubu in 2027.
The statement was signed by Obiora Ifoh, the National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party.
According to Ifoh, “Desperate politicians can’t birth new Nigeria,” emphasizing that the party will not tolerate members with “dual agenda” or “deceptive persona.”
The Labour Party expressed concerns over Obi’s involvement with the coalition, describing it as an assemblage of “old, recycled, desperate, and frustrated politicians.” Ifoh stated,
“The new Nigeria that the youths are dreaming of is not what can be realized from what we are seeing in the coalition.”
The party urged its members to remain loyal and keep the party structure intact ahead of future elections.
“The new Nigeria of our dream can only be realized through Labour Party, and the party is willing to lead Nigerians along that trajectory,” Ifoh added.
The clock is ticking for Peter Obi to make a decision regarding his membership in the Labour Party.
