Two suspects arrested in connection with the murder of Anambra State lawmaker, Hon. Justice Azuka, have escaped from police custody.

The suspects were among those recently arrested by state security outfits, including Agunaechemba, the Anambra State Anti-tout Squad (SASA), and the Nigerian Police.

The escape has heightened tension in the state, despite efforts by newly inaugurated security outfits, Agunechemba and Operation Udo Ga Achi.

The police have launched a manhunt to re-arrest the suspects and have initiated disciplinary action against the officers responsible for the escape.

In another disturbing incident, gunmen have abducted another Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Jude Onyeka.

This comes after the decomposing body of Hon. Justice Azuka was found at the Second Niger Bridge on February 6, nearly two months after his abduction on the eve of last Christmas.

The Anambra State Police Command has assured the public that efforts are underway to ensure the swift re-arrest of the suspects and to bring them to justice.

The police have also vowed to intensify their efforts to combat rising criminal activities in the state.
