2024 Grammy Awards: Burna Boy, Davido, Tems Lose All Nominations

February 5, 2024 1 min read

The 2024 Grammy Awards didn’t go well for Nigerian Afrobeats celebrities: Burna Boy, Davido, Tems, Ayra Starr, Olamide, and Asake, as they lost all nominations.

Despite having 10 nominations in five categories, they didn’t win any.

In the ‘Best African Music Performance’ category, they lost to South African singer Tyla for her song “Water.”

The 2024 Grammy Awards were announced before the main show at the Grammy Premiere ceremony.

Burna Boy, who won Best Global Album in 2021, lost this time to Shakti.

The Indian band won with their album “This Moment,” beating Burna Boy and Davido.

Burna Boy and Davido also didn’t win in the Best Global Music Performance category, losing to Indian composer Zakir Hussain.

Lil Durk’s song “All My Life” won Best Melodic Rap, defeating Burna Boy’s nominated track. Even though Burna Boy was set to perform his nominated song at the live ceremony, he didn’t win.

Tems, who won her first Grammy last year, lost this time in the Song Written for Visual Media category. Her work on the Black Panther theme song was beaten by Billie Eilish’s song for the movie ‘Barbie.’
