UNICAL Scandal: 54 individuals, including bread seller, expelled from NYSC

The National Youth Service Corps, NYSC, has dismissed 54 corps members, including a bread seller who were fraudulent mobilized for national service.

In a statement by NYSC Director-General, Brigadier General YD Ahmed, that was disclosed via the Director of Information and Public Relations, Mr. Eddy Megwa, on Saturday noted that the affected individuals will be brought to justice.

In addition, about four certificates of national service were withheld due to irregularities.

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has voided an additional 101 certificates of national service, bringing the total to 178.

This action follows the earlier voidance of 77 certificates. NYSC Director-General, General Ahmed, praised UNICAL’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Florence Obi, for exposing the illegal mobilization of unqualified graduates. To prevent future occurrences, General Ahmed announced plans to intensify collaboration with Heads of Corps Producing Institutions and also a strengthen partnerships with stakeholders

The statement quoted Ahmed as saying, “The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Calabar came here to report that she observed some names appeared on the institution’s list that ought not to have been there.

“I give kudos to the Vice-Chancellor. Previously, a bread seller was mobilized on the graduation list from the same institution.

“There are bad eggs in many places that generate matriculation numbers and courses for their candidates.

“Those who are responsible for inputting the data of graduates should be people of integrity.”
