Two Nigerian brothers, John Abugu, 43, and Kenneth Abugu, 31, were arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos for attempting to smuggle 5kg of cocaine into India.

The brothers were apprehended on April 3, 2025, while preparing to board a flight, claiming they were traveling for medical treatment.

NDLEA operatives conducted a thorough search of the brothers’ luggage, discovering a whitish powdery substance hidden in the lining of their bags, later confirmed to be cocaine.

β€œThe two brothers were arrested at the Lagos airport on Thursday, April 3, 2025, following proactive processing of credible intelligence,” said Femi Babafemi, NDLEA Director of Media & Advocacy.

The NDLEA also made several other arrests across Nigeria.

Abdullahi Adamu was seized with 381 bottles of codeine syrup and 108 tablets of tramadol in Yobe State.

Obinna Sunday was arrested with 195,000 pills of tramadol in Anambra State. Ugochukwu Ojalanonye was caught with 4.2kg codeine syrup and 5.4kg pentazocine.

Additionally, Sunday Ayogu was arrested with 25kg skunk and 90.4g of methamphetamine in Abuja.

Two women, Faith Effiong Etim, 64, and Victoria Asuquo Etim, 40, were arrested for cannabis cultivation in Cross River State, where 250,000 kilograms of the psychoactive plant were destroyed on over 100 hectares of farmland.

The NDLEA continues its “War Against Drug Abuse” campaign nationwide, conducting sensitization programs in schools, communities, and workplaces.
