Tinubu Converts Dental College to University

March 16, 2024 2 min read

President Bola Tinubu has approved the conversion of Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu, to a full-fledged university.

“Consequently, the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy in Enugu will now be known as the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu, and will be domiciled under the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare,” Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, revealed in a statement he signed Thursday.

The statement was entitled, ‘President Tinubu approves upgrade of Federal College of Dental Technology to University.’

Thursday’s approval comes nearly one month after he was named African Union Champion for Human Resources for Health and Community Health Delivery Partnership.

Ngelale said the institutional upgrade came amid on-going health reforms, which would see the federal government train 120,000 frontline health workers nationwide within 16 months.

It also aimed, according to Ngelale, to double the number of primary health facilities in local communities across the 774 local government areas from its current 8,800 to over 17,000 in the next three years.

Moreso, the FG said it would double the number of health personnel graduating from accredited nursing and midwifery institutions over the next three years to ensure accessible, affordable, and quality healthcare services for Nigerians, said the President’s spokesman.
