Tension Heightens in Rivers as Governor Fubara Faces Threats Ahead of Supreme Court Judgment

December 20, 2023 2 min read

Fresh reports suggest that the crisis gripping the Rivers State House of Assembly shows no sign of ending, with the governor’s fate hanging in the balance.

NEWS WEEK NIGERIA reports that the political landscape of Rivers State remains turbulent as Governor Siminalayi Fubara finds himself in the eye of a storm, grappling with severe threats linked to an impending Supreme Court ruling.

Fresh reports suggest that the crisis gripping the Rivers State House of Assembly shows no signs of ending, with the governor’s fate hanging in the balance.

Governor Fubara recently participated in a peace agreement meeting at the Aso Rock Villa, alongside Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike and other state stakeholders, purportedly signing an eight-point resolution agreement.

However, allegations have emerged regarding the authenticity of the governor’s signature on this document.

Engr. Boma Precious Kalama, the Special Adviser on Media to the House of Assembly Leader, vehemently discredited the circulated agreement on social media, labelling the governor’s signature as fake, urging the public to disregard it.

Kalama even went so far as to call for the arrest of the individual responsible for the purported agreement.

Furthermore, Kalama raised the alarm on the threats looming over Governor Fubara in connection with his pending Supreme Court judgment.

Kalama wrote: “Wait they are threatening Gov Sim with Supreme Court? Desperation oh! We will see the end of this.”

Expressing disbelief and condemning the alleged intimidation tactics, the Special Adviser made the claims on his official Facebook account. Similarly, an independent investigative body, PIDOMNIGERIA, revealed gravity of the situation by confirming the threats directed at the governor from influential political figures regarding the upcoming court ruling.

Despite these escalating tensions, Governor Fubara, in a public address during the PAMO University of Medical Sciences’ Convocation and Founders Day ceremonies, maintained his commitment to peace in the state.

Declaring that no price was too high to pay for tranquility, he reiterated his unwavering dedication to fostering harmony in Rivers State.

This recent public statement by Governor Fubara marked his first appearance since the resolution of the Rivers State crisis, mediated by President Bola Tinubu on Monday.

As the political climate simmers with uncertainty, all eyes remain fixed on the looming Supreme Court judgment and its potential ramifications for Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the volatile state of affairs in Rivers State.
