A tragic incident occurred in Benin City, Edo State, this morning when a four-storey building located on Ekhator Street, Ekosodin, collapsed during a heavy downpour at approximately 6:00 am.

According to eyewitnesses, three students and one of the landlord’s children were trapped under the rubble when the building came crashing down.

Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and rescued four individuals who sustained serious injuries.

The victims have been rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for immediate medical attention.

The cause of the building collapse is yet to be determined, but authorities suspect that the heavy rainfall may have weakened the structure, leading to the tragic incident.

Rescue efforts are ongoing, and officials are working to determine if there are any other survivors trapped under the debris.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of ensuring building safety and adhering to construction standards to prevent such tragedies from occurring.
