Sen. Sheu Sani calls for An Independent Probe Of CBN

June 12, 2023 2 min read

Senator Shehu Sani has called on the Federal Government to initiate an independent investigation into the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and its suspended governor, Godwin Emefiele. Sani, a former federal lawmaker, expressed his views on Twitter, referring to Emefiele’s tenure as the apex bank’s governor as a means for the “Cabal” to exploit the institution and exploit its financial resources.

In response to President Bola Tinubu’s decision to suspend Emefiele and appoint Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi as the acting governor, Sani commended the move. However, he emphasized the need for external auditors to be involved in a thorough investigation of the CBN and Emefiele, aiming to promote transparency and accountability.

According to Sani, engaging auditors from outside the CBN is crucial to effectively clean up the operations of the apex bank. He claimed that the CBN had been manipulated by the Cabal, serving as both a financial resource and a source of benefit for the privileged few associated with the previous administration.Sani’s statement highlights the importance of conducting an unbiased investigation into the CBN’s activities during Emefiele’s tenure. By involving external auditors, the hope is to provide an objective assessment of the institution’s operations and shed light on any potential improprieties.
