Reasons DSS Allegedly Quizzed Oshiomhole

December 21, 2023 3 min read

Former Ogun State governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, on Wednesday alleged that Senator Adams Oshiomhole was quizzed by the Department of State Services (DSS) in the days leading to the 2019 General Election because of what he claimed as grave allegations made against him.

Amosun who described Oshiomhole as the biggest and most destructive threat to the APC spoke following remarks made by the former national chairman of the party over challenges he faced managing the party, however, failed short in giving reasons why the DSS quizzed Oshiomhole.

He had alleged, among others, that the party had to spend huge resources to win Ogun State because of the opposition to the APC governorship candidate by the then governor of the state, Amosun, who was supporting another candidate from a different political party.

Oshiomhole, speaking at the book launch organized by the former APC National Vice-Chairman North-West, Salihu Lukman, said that the party invested about N800 million in Imo, Ogun, Kwara, and Taraba because of the strong opposition in those states.

Responding in a statement, Amosun among others said that Oshiomhole was quizzed by the DSS prior to the election because of what he termed grave allegations.

Amosun, however, did not elaborate on the grave allegations he said prompted the DSS to quiz Oshiomhole.

Amosun said APC conducted worst primaries in Nigeria’s history under Oshiomhole’s watch, describing him as “APC’s biggest, most destructive threat.”

“It is not in doubt that I have participated fully in the formation and sustenance of our party, the APC, and I can boldly say that the party under Adams Oshiomhole conducted one of the worst primaries in the history of Nigeria’s contemporary politics and ended up shopping for his own enemies, leading to his eventual removal as Chairman of our party. Nigerians should not be in a hurry to forget the allegations that preceded the conduct of those primaries and his eventual invitation by the Department of State Service, DSS, to clarify certain grave allegations,” Amosun said of the claim that the DSS quizzed Oshiomhole.

“If anyone was in doubt that Senator Oshiomhole posed the biggest and most destructive threat to the existence of the APC at that time, and the party’s best bet was to dispose of a canon folder that he was and unfortunately still is, his utterances and grandstanding yesterday at an occasion to find solutions to our democratic and party challenges, would have cleared such mindset,” he said.

GWG.ng reports that the assertions by Amosun including the claim that the DSS quizzed Oshiomhole served as a backdrop to recent experiences by the former party chairman who suffered the loss of his home state in 2020 on account of the intrigues within the party with some APC governors working against the APC candidate in Edo State.

Oshiomhole has, however, following that recovered his bounce becoming the ultimate leader of the APC in Edo State and a close confidant of President Bola Tinubu.
