Police dismiss ASP Nuhu Usman over killing of Mene Ogidi, hand over for criminal prosecution — “Justice is now underway”

The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman following the shooting death of Mene Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State, on April 26, 2026. All officers involved have been withdrawn from Delta State and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja.

According to Aliyu Giwa, the new Force Media Officer, the Force Disciplinary Committee found that ASP Nuhu Usman committed a gross violation of Force Order 237, describing his actions as unlawful, unprofessional, and a serious breach of the oath to protect life. The recommendation for immediate dismissal was approved without hesitation by the Force leadership.

The Police Service Commission has received the recommendation for ratification. Upon completion, the officers will be handed over to judicial authorities for criminal prosecution — dismissed first, then prosecuted.

“Justice for Mene Ogidi is no longer a promise; it is now actively underway,” Giwa said. The Force extended its deepest condolences to the family of the deceased, acknowledging the loss as deeply regrettable while vowing to pursue justice fully and lawfully.
