The United States Consul General in Nigeria, Rick Swart, has reaffirmed that the digital economy remains central to the commercial and investment partnership between Nigeria and the United States.

Swart made this known while delivering his goodwill message at GITEX Nigeria 2025, one of the country’s largest technology and innovation gatherings. He stressed that the U.S. government, through its private sector, continues to support Nigeria’s digital transformation journey, particularly by fostering innovation and building sustainable digital infrastructure.

According to him, leading American technology firms are playing a pivotal role in driving Nigeria’s digital growth by providing advanced solutions, creating jobs, and equipping young Nigerians with 21st-century skills.

β€œThe digital economy is not just the future, it is the present. The partnership between our two countries in this space is helping to unlock opportunities, enhance competitiveness, and create shared prosperity for both Nigerians and Americans,” Swart said.

He added that collaborations in areas such as fintech, cybersecurity, e-commerce, and emerging technologies are deepening bilateral ties while ensuring that Nigeria remains competitive in the global digital marketplace.

GITEX Nigeria 2025, which brought together government officials, technology experts, entrepreneurs, and investors, served as a platform to showcase innovative solutions and discuss strategies for harnessing technology to drive inclusive growth.

Swart further reiterated the U.S. commitment to supporting Nigeria’s digital ecosystem, noting that strategic cooperation in technology would remain a defining feature of bilateral relations in the years ahead.
