As part of activities marking the coronation of the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland, Professor Toyin Falola, a globally renowned historian and academic, will tomorrow deliver the official coronation lecture.

The lecture, titled “Ibadan in History: Issues in Modernity and Tradition,” will take place at the International Conference Centre, University of Ibadan, beginning at 11:00 a.m.

Professor Falola, often described as Africa’s most prolific scholar, is the Jacob and Frances Sanger Mossiker Chair in the Humanities at the University of Texas at Austin. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Letters and a widely celebrated authority on African history and culture.

The lecture is expected to provide deep insights into Ibadan’s historical evolution, its role in shaping Yoruba civilization, and the challenges of balancing modernity with tradition in the city’s cultural and political life.

The event forms part of the series of activities lined up to celebrate the coronation of the new Olubadan, underscoring the importance of Ibadan not only in Yoruba history but also in Nigeria’s broader socio-political landscape.
