The coronation ceremony of Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, the 46th Alaafin of Oyo, brought together an impressive gathering of royalty and dignitaries from across the region.

Held at Oliveth Baptist High School in Oyo, the event showcased the significance of the Alaafin in Yorubaland’s cultural heritage.

Royal Presence

The Oba of Ajase from the Republic of Benin attended the ceremony, highlighting strong ties between the two kingdoms.

Members of the Oyo Mesi, a council of chiefs, were also present, demonstrating their support for the new Alaafin.

Prominent Dignitaries

Notable attendees included the Aare Onakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, a high-ranking chief, and Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde.

The Governor’s presence shows the government’s recognition of the Alaafin’s importance.

Thousands of well-wishers, traditional leaders, and cultural enthusiasts attended the ceremony, creating a vibrant atmosphere with music and dance.

Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade, 47, was born into a royal family in Oyo Town. He studied mechanical engineering and worked in various roles, including project coordinator at Manitoba Hydro in Canada, before assuming the throne. His coronation marks a significant milestone in Oyo Kingdom’s history, with expectations of promoting peace, unity, and community development.
