No fewer than 100 terrorists from the Jamā’at Ahl as-Sunnah lid-Da’wah wa’l-Jihād (JAS) Boko Haram faction have been naturalised in the long week of coordinated strikes by the Nigerian Airforce in the fringes of Gwoza Local Government Area, according to counter-insurgency expert Zagazola Makama’s report.
The precise intelligence-led air strikes conducted by the Air Component, under OPERATION WARUN 3, between 9th and 11th July 2023, in Grazah and Wa-Jahode, in the fringes of the Mandara Mountains resulted in the annihilation of the terrorists.Intelligence sources informed Zagazola Makama, a Counter-insurgency Expert and Security Analyst in the Lake Chad region, that the first air strikes were carried out in Grazah, a location administered by the Boko Haram terrorists, which also served as their meeting point.Ground assessment by sources revealed that the Super Tukano Aircraft scored an accurate hit which resulted in the elimination of a number of the Boko Haram unit commanders and high-value fighters, while many more who escaped were seriously injured.Consequently, on 11th June, the Air Component carried out follow-up strikes in Wa-Jahode, which have been confirmed as highly successful, as many other terrorists were neutralised with others said to be in critical condition.
The Air Component also destroyed many structures which served as a haven to the terrorists. The Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshall IO Amao, launched the intensive offensive Air operation nicknamed: OPERATION WARUN 3, across all the Theatres of Operation with the Air Component of Operation Hadin Kai as the main focus.The aim is to soften the ground for the surface forces to exploit with a view to facilitating the speedy elimination of terrorists and bandits across the country.
