The Ondo State Government has revived the office of the Justices of the Peace (JPs) after nearly 17 years of dormancy, marking a major step toward strengthening grassroots justice delivery.

Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa, alongside the Attorney General and Commissioner of Justice, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, and the Chief Judge of the State, Justice Olusegun Odusola, inaugurated 130 new JPs on Friday, November 28.

The appointees, drawn from diverse sectors and communities across the state, were sworn in to support local dispute resolution and enhance access to justice in underserved areas.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Aiyedatiwa described the inauguration as a significant milestone in reinforcing the rule of law and promoting community cohesion. He noted that the initiative aligns with the “Order, Security and the Rule of Law” pillar of his administration’s OUR EASE agenda.

The revival of the JP office, he said, will help bridge gaps between formal justice institutions and local communities, ensuring quicker, community-centered conflict resolution.
