The 2024 Nigeria Prize for Literature has been awarded to Olubunmi Familoni, author of “The Road Does Not End”.
The announcement was made at the Grand Award Night held at Eko Hotel, Lagos, on Friday evening.
Familoni’s journey to this moment began with a passion for storytelling and a desire to address the pressing issue of child labor in society. Through his book, he weaves a narrative that not only sheds light on this critical social issue but also explores the importance of relationships and personal growth.

Prof Akachi Adimora-Ezeigbo, Chairperson of the Advisory Board, praised Familoni’s work, saying, “The Road Does Not End addresses critical social issues, particularly child labor, and shows how resilience can help overcome societal challenges.” Adimora-Ezeigbo’s words echoed the sentiments of the judges, who recognized Familoni’s book as a standout among the 11 longlisted works.
The competition, sponsored by Nigeria LNG Limited, aimed to promote children’s literature, highlighting stories that shape young minds. Familoni’s book, along with the other shortlisted works, “A Father’s Pride” by Ndidi Chiazor-Enenmo and “Wish Maker” by Uchechukwu Peter Umezurike, demonstrated the power of literature to inspire and educate.
