OLOWO-IN-COUNCIL DECLARES SUSPENDED COUNCIL CHAIRMAN PERSONA NON GRATA IN OWO

The Olowo-in-Council has declared the suspended Chairman of Owo Local Government in Ondo State, Hon. Tope Omolayo, persona non grata within the town over alleged public insults directed at the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Ogunoye.

Omolayo, who was recently suspended by local lawmakers, had issued a public apology to the monarch after a viral audio recording surfaced in which he was heard making disparaging remarks about the traditional ruler.

Despite the apology, the Olowo-in-Council maintained that Omolayo’s continued presence as chairman is no longer acceptable to the people and traditional leadership of the ancient kingdom.

Speaking on behalf of the Council, the Ogwadogbon of Owo Kingdom, High Chief (Dr.) Ademola Obanonyen, said the insult was not merely against the monarch but an affront to the collective heritage and dignity of Owo people.

β€œThe Olowo of Owo Kingdom is not only the custodian of our ancient traditions but also a symbol of unity, peace, and progress. Any attempt to ridicule the person or sacred institution he represents is an insult to the entire Owo Kingdom, our ancestors, and our collective heritage,” Obanonyen stated.

He urged the Ondo State Government and relevant authorities to take note of the Council’s position and implement necessary administrative measures to safeguard peace and order in the community.

The Olowo-in-Council’s declaration effectively bars Omolayo from participating in public or traditional functions within the kingdom pending further action by state authorities.
