NIGERIA POLICE FORCE ANNOUNCES RESUMPTION OF ENFORCEMENT OF TINTED GLASS PERMIT

The Nigeria Police Force has announced plans to resume the enforcement of the Tinted Glass Permit policy nationwide from January 2, 2026, citing rising security concerns linked to the misuse of vehicles with unauthorised tinted glass.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the police clarified that there was never a court order restraining the Force from enforcing the law on tinted glass. According to the statement, enforcement was earlier suspended voluntarily to give motorists sufficient time to regularise their documentation and complete the permit application process without undue pressure.

The Force explained that recent security assessments revealed an increase in criminal activities aided by vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass. It said criminals and organised groups have taken advantage of the enforcement gap to conceal their identities while carrying out crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences, prompting the need for urgent action.

The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, assured the public that the renewed enforcement would be carried out with professionalism, respect for citizens’ rights and in strict compliance with existing laws. He also encouraged motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with all legal requirements, reaffirming the Force’s commitment to public safety and the rule of law.
