NAFDAC seizes ₦300 Million worth of fake medicines in Lagos raid

In a major crackdown on counterfeit pharmaceuticals, the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has seized fake medicines worth over ₦300 million in a raid at Tyre Village, Trade Fair Complex, Lagos State.

The operation, carried out by NAFDAC’s Investigation and Enforcement team, uncovered a large quantity of counterfeit medicines, including Amoxicillin 500mg, Ampicloxa capsules 500mg, and packaging materials for Augmentin capsules 625mg.

The facility has been placed on hold, and all illegal products have been evacuated.

According to NAFDAC, these counterfeit medicines pose severe health risks, including treatment failure, organ damage, and potential carcinogenic effects due to unknown compositions. The agency has invited the suspect for questioning, and investigations are currently underway.

NAFDAC is urging the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious products and activities to the nearest NAFDAC office.

This raid is part of NAFDAC’s ongoing efforts to combat the menace of counterfeit medicines in Nigeria.

As stated on the NAFDAC website, the agency’s enforcement activities are principally responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory activities.

NAFDAC receives and investigates complaints, carries out and supervises the destruction of defective, dangerous, fake, counterfeit, substandard, expired, adulterated, and/or unwholesome NAFDAC-regulated products.
