The National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has raided an illegal alcohol factory in Lagos, arresting three individuals and seizing goods worth N200 million.

In a courageous move to protect public health in the country, the agency disclosed to this in a press statement on Friday.

NAFDAC said its “enforcement officers, acting on intelligence reports, have uncovered an illegal facility producing various alcoholic beverages in the Lagos Island area of Lagos State.”

“After thorough surveillance, the officers discovered that several packing stores and rooms in Oke-Arin market had been converted into makeshift factories where different brands of alcoholic drinks were being produced, packaged, and distributed in the open market,” it stated.

NAFDAC also revealed that “over 2,000 cartons of empty bottles and already packaged drinks were seized, along with a mini plastic mixing tank, an improvised filter, and various packaging materials. Three suspects were arrested in connection with the illegal operation.”

“NAFDAC has estimated the street value of the seized items at N200 million” and urged the public to be vigilant, especially when purchasing alcoholic beverages.

“Investigation is ongoing, and the suspects will face prosecution upon its conclusion” NAFDAC stated.
