The Lagos State Government has launched a groundbreaking Health Insurance Scheme (HIS) aimed at ensuring universal access to quality healthcare for its residents.
The State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, led the launch on Tuesday, emphasizing the scheme’s significance in bridging the healthcare gap and promoting overall well-being.
Also, the commissioner for Health, Prof. Akin Abayomi, highlighted the key provisions and goals of the transformative policy.
He said, “The initiative aligns with the objective of the National Health Insurance Authority Act 2022 – making State level social health insurance mandatory to achieve Universal Health Coverage, UHC.
“Social health insurance, universally practised in various forms, has numerous socioeconomic benefits. It pools contributory funds and spreads risk across a large group, minimizing individual financial exposure and enhancing protection.” Abayomi stated.
Governor Sanwo-Olu assured a phased implementation, ensuring a seamless transition and maximum impact.
This innovative initiative positions Lagos as a pioneer in healthcare reform, setting a benchmark for other states to follow.
“Healthcare is a fundamental human right, and we’re committed to making it accessible to all Lagosians.” – Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu
The Lagos Health Insurance Scheme marks a significant milestone in the state’s healthcare journey, promising a brighter, healthier future for its residents.
