Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially launched the commercial operations of the Lagos Metropolitan Rail Transport (LMRT) Red Line, marking a significant milestone in the state’s transportation history.
The Red Line, spanning 27 kilometers, connects Agbado to Oyingbo, with eight strategically located stations: Oyingbo, Yaba, Mushin, Oshodi, Ikeja, Agege, Iju, and Agbado.
This latest addition to Lagos’ transportation network aims to transport approximately 500,000 passengers daily, alleviating traffic congestion and enhancing mobility.
Governor Sanwo-Olu took to Twitter to announce the launch, stating, “Dear Lagosians, today marks the launch of commercial operations of the LMRT Red Line… We’re on a mission to keep Lagos moving, and the Red Line is a key part of our vision to create a seamlessly connected city.”
Sanwo-Olu emphasized the importance of protecting the infrastructure, warning against vandalism or disruptions. “Just as with the Blue Line and any other public infrastructure, remember that this project belongs to all of us. Let’s treat it with the respect it deserves.”
The Red Line’s launch follows the successful operationalization of the Blue Line, demonstrating Lagos State’s commitment to modernizing its transportation system.
This development is expected to boost economic growth, reduce travel times, and enhance the overall quality of life for Lagos residents.
As the state continues to invest in its transportation infrastructure, Governor Sanwo-Olu urged residents to take ownership of the project, ensuring its longevity and effectiveness. With the Red Line now operational, Lagos moves closer to achieving its vision of a seamlessly connected, efficient, and sustainable transportation network.
