“Genocidal and diabolical” — Think Yoruba First blasts Farooq Kperogi over claims that Ilorin, Shao, Jebba are not Yoruba towns

April 19, 2026 1 min read

Think Yoruba First has issued a strong rebuttal against Farooq Kperogi’s article, “Tinubu’s Yoruba Agenda Risks Deep Rupture in Kwara,” accusing the writer of making hate-filled and Yorubaphobic statements against Yoruba communities in Kwara and Kogi States.

The organisation rejected Kperogi’s characterisation of Yoruba identity in the North-Central region, describing his claims that Ilorin, Shao, Jebba, Afon, Elemere, and Eiyekorin are not Yoruba towns as “evil and highly diabolical.”

Think Yoruba First questioned Kperogi’s consistency, noting that Kano remains Hausaland despite Fulani rulership, and asked why Yoruba-speaking towns in Kwara Central and Kwara North should be treated differently.

“Is Kperogi an advocate of genocide of the Yoruba race?” the statement asked.

The organisation also accused Kperogi of ignoring the political subjugation of Yoruba people in Kogi by the Ebira while whipping up ethnic sentiments against President Bola Tinubu.

Think Yoruba First called on public intellectuals to engage responsibly with verifiable facts and to avoid weaponising ethnic identity in public discourse. It reaffirmed that the Yoruba people of Kwara have historically coexisted peacefully with other ethnic groups and that their pursuit of political leadership is not a threat to unity but an exercise of their democratic rights.
