Kwara South Traditional Rulers Back Kwara North for 2027 Governorship in Historic Show of Unity

The political landscape of Kwara State took a historic turn as all first-class traditional rulers from Kwara South agreed to support a candidate from Kwara North in the 2027 governorship election. The unanimous decision was reached at the Ajase Ipo Descendants Union Hall, where Kwara North and Kwara South rulers met to discuss insecurity and the Kwara North 2027 governorship agenda.

Oba Ismail Yahaya Alebiosu, Olupo of Ajase Ipo and host of the event, commended the traditional rulers for engaging in dialogue and reiterated the commitment of Kwara South rulers to support Kwara North’s 2027 bid.

Oba Muftau Gbadamosi Esuwoye II, Olofa of Offa, called for a localized security model across Kwara North and South, assuring the people of Kwara North that their quest for the governorship has the backing of Kwara South rulers. He emphasized, “In Offa town, we believe in equity and fairness. What Kwara North is asking for is not too much; it is their right to produce the governor of Kwara State in 2027. We, the traditional rulers of Kwara South and North, have agreed to support any candidate from Kwara North.”

Etsu Patigi, Dr. Umar Bologi, expressed appreciation to the hosting rulers for their readiness to back the Kwara North agenda. He noted that Kwara North has historically supported Kwara South and pledged that the region would continue its fight against insecurity through a coordinated local security strategy. Alhaji Mohammad Kudu Kawu, Emir of Lafiagi, reaffirmed the region’s determination, describing the gathering as historic and pledging unrelenting efforts to ensure Kwara North produces the next governor.

Elese of Igbaja, Oba Ahmed Babalola, and Olomu of Omuaran, Oba Abdulraheem Oladele Adeoti, called for localized security measures to tackle insecurity in both regions while reiterating their support for the Kwara North governorship bid.

Other traditional rulers in attendance included Olofa of Ilofa, Olosi of Osi, Emir of Yashikira, Emir of Okuta, Olupako of Share, Etsu Tsaragi, Olusin of Isanlu Isin, Emir of Ilesha Baruba, Emir of Kaiama, and Elerin of Erin-Ile.

The endorsement follows an earlier resolution by Kwara North traditional rulers to decisively support a son or daughter from the region to govern the state in 2027.
