KWARA MASSACRE: TYF Demands State of Emergency as Bandits Kill 12 in Oke-Ode

The Pan-Yoruba socio-cultural group, otherwise known as Think Yoruba First, TYF) has called on President Bola Tinubu to declare a state of emergency in Kwara State following the killing of no fewer than 12 persons, including the Baale of Ogbayo, in Oke-Ode community, Ifelodun Local Government Area.

In a strongly worded statement, TYF’s Public Relations Officer, Oluwole Lewis, condemned the attack carried out by suspected bandits, describing it as another clear sign that Kwara has now become a major target of terrorists.

The Pan-Yoruba socio cultural group stressed that nothing short of a full-scale military operation can guarantee the safety of residents, given that several communities across Kwara have been left defenseless due to lack of security presence.

β€œSome of these troubled communities do not even have a single police station, nor are they close to any military formation. They also suffer from lack of electricity and internet access, making emergency SOS calls nearly impossible,” the group said.

TYF urged the Federal Government to act decisively, warning that continued silence and inaction will only embolden the criminals and deepen the humanitarian crisis, as residents of Oke-Ode and neighboring towns flee for safety to Patigi, Lafiagi and as far as Ilorin.

The Socio Cultural group emphasized that declaring a state of emergency would pave the way for coordinated military response to reclaim the affected areas and restore public confidence in government’s ability to protect lives.
