Lagos State has been thrown into mourning yet again following the death of Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, the Council Manager of Coker Aguda Local Council Development Area (LCDA). Her passing on Monday, September 29, 2025, makes her the fifth female local government official to die in Lagos within two months.

According to report obtained, Mrs. Akinola, who until her death was the Chairman of the Forum of Council Managers in Lagos State, died after a brief illness. She was widely described as a dedicated administrator and also served as the Head of Administration of Coker/Aguda LCDA.

The Forum of Council Managers confirmed her death in a statement that read:

β€œWith total submission to the will of Allah, we announce the passing away of our dear Chairman, Mrs. Adebimpe Akinola, this afternoon, Monday, 29th September, 2025. She was the Council Manager of Coker/Aguda LCDA until her death.”

The Forum added that she would be buried according to Islamic rites on Tuesday, September 30, 2025. Her Janazah Prayer will be held at Al Kitab Mosque, Abosede Onamade Street, Eleshin, after Zuhr Prayer at 1:00 p.m., followed by burial at the Equitable CDA Muslim Cemetery, Igbe Lara, by 2:00 p.m.

Her death, coming so soon after a string of similar tragedies, has intensified fears and concerns across Lagos councils. Many stakeholders describe the repeated losses as disturbing and unprecedented in the state’s local government system.
