A 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, has been arrested for cutting off his wife’s left wrist with a machete.

The incident happened in Southeastern Nigeria, Anambra state precisely.

The gruesome attack allegedly stemmed from Echege’s suspicion of his wife, Chinonso Echege’s, involvement in extramarital affairs.

According to the Enugu State Police Command, the incident occurred on January 26, 2025, at Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka Local Government Area .

The police spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, revealed that preliminary investigations indicate Echege has confessed to the crime, citing his suspicions as the motive.

The suspect will face trial upon completion of the investigation, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu

The police commissioner also urged couples to resolve conflicts through love, understanding, and legal means, rather than resorting to violent acts

In a disturbing trend, this incident highlights the need for addressing domestic violence and promoting healthy conflict resolution within relationships

The Enugu State Police Command’s swift response and commitment to justice are commendable, and it is hoped that this case will serve as a deterrent to others.
