The Hassan Olajoku family, both home and abroad, has commended the Mushin Local Government Executive Council’s decision to restore the original name of Paramo Market, replacing the current name, Aguiyi Ironsi Market.

This decision is seen as a victory for the family and a testament to the legacy of the market’s late founder, Alhaji Suleiman Alabi Hassan-Olajoku.

According to the family, the name “Paramo” is derived from the popular Yoruba saying, “Ologini t’ajo de, ekute ile paramo,” which was inspired by the signature horn tune of Alhaji Chief Kehinde Hassan-Olajoku’s luxurious cars.

Alhaji Suleiman Alabi Hassan-Olajoku chose this name to honor his father and family patriarch, Alhaji Chief Kehinde Hassan-Olajoku (The Ekerin Waigbo of Mushin), who migrated from Ilobu to Lagos in 1913.

The market’s history dates back to 1913 when Alhaji Chief Kehinde Hassan-Olajoku migrated from Ilobu to Lagos and established the market.

Over the years, the market has grown to become one of the largest auto parts markets in Lagos.

The decision to restore the original name of the market is seen as a way to honor the legacy of the market’s late founder and to preserve the history and cultural heritage of the community.

As Chief Sahib Lanre Hassan (Baba Mighty) aptly put it, “The actions, intentions, and sacrifices of our heroes past must never be forgotten. Eko o ni baje!”

Mushin residents affirms that the restoration of the name is a strong evidence to the enduring legacy of Alhaji Suleiman Alabi Hassan-Olajoku and his family, and a celebration of the rich cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.
