Lagos resident, Freedom Sunday Akabuchi, has been sentenced to six months imprisonment for vandalizing Government infrastructure.

Akabuchi was apprehended by officials of the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARK) for cutting the wire mesh pole at Peace Park, Ojota.

He was subsequently arraigned at the Magistrate Court, Bolade, on a 3-count charge bordering on conduct likely to cause breach of peace, wilful damage, and theft of government property.

Akabuchi pleaded guilty to charges of theft and breach of peace, and the court sentenced him to six months imprisonment.

However, his trial for the charge of wilful damage will commence after he has served his initial sentence. The authorities have warned that acts of vandalism will be met with the full weight of the law, emphasizing that government properties are public assets not for personal exploitation.

The case serves as a deterrent to would-be vandals, as the government is determined to protect its assets and maintain the integrity of public infrastructure.

The court’s decision is a clear indication that the law will take its course against anyone found guilty of vandalizing government property.
