The Federal Government has secured the release of six Nigerians who were detained in Côte d’Ivoire without trial. The Nigerians in Diaspora Commission confirmed the development in a statement on Friday.

According to the commission, the detainees were held for several months without formal charges. Their release followed diplomatic engagements between Nigerian authorities and the Ivorian government.

The Nigerians were reportedly released on July 2. The Federal Government has advised Nigerians abroad to respect the laws of their host countries and ensure their documents are up to date.
