Ekiti and Kaduna state transport agencies seek guidance from LAMATA on public transportation.

January 27, 2025 2 min read

Two Nigerian state transport agencies, the Ekiti State Transport Agency (EKSTA) and the Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA), visited the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) today to learn from its successful public transportation initiatives.

The EKSTA, established in December 2024 by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, sought to gain insights into LAMATA’s operations to inform their own strategic planning.

Led by Director-General Hon. Tajudeen Akingbolu, the delegation included Oluwatobi Fatoki Esq. and Kazeem Olaniyan, who received a briefing from LAMATA’s Managing Director, Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo, on key initiatives, particularly the ongoing Bus Reform Initiative (BRI). Engr. Akinajo stressed the importance of professional development and encouraged the Ekiti agency to participate in industry training programs.

Separately, a delegation from Kaduna State Transport Regulatory Authority (KADSTRA) visited LAMATA to gain insights into BRT procurement and operations as they prepare to launch their own BRT system in Kaduna state.

Acting Director-General Engineer Inuwa Ibrahim led the delegation, which also included Engr. Zubairu Abubakar and Dr. Yamusa Bello Yamusa.

Engr. Mrs. Abimbola Akinajo expressed her full support for both agencies and pledged to assist in any way possible within her capacity.

These visits demonstrate a commitment by both Ekiti and Kaduna states to improving public transportation for their citizens by leveraging best practices and learning from successful models.
