Edo Wins First Cycling Gold, Bronze at NYG

Team Edo posted a fine performance in the cycling event of the on-going National Youth Games in Asaba on Sunday as their athletes claimed the first gold and bronze medals.

The team won the medals in the 40Km road race cycling event in the female category.

Young cyclist, Divine Ogbe, beat off strong competition from Atanda Damola from Kwara to win the gold medal, while her teammate Osaretin Godwin settled for the bronze.

An emotional Ogbe dedicated her victory to her teammate, Godwin and her coaches.

“I thought I was not going to make it. I want to say thank you to my teammate, Osaretin, and our coaches. The contest was not easy,” She said.

In the handball event, Edo beat Plateau 21-15 in their first match to advance to the quarter-finals.
