DSS Probes Bawa’s Involvement in Naira Redesign Policy, Others

The Department of State Services (DSS) is currently interrogating Abdulrasheed Bawa, the suspended Chairman of Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), regarding his involvement in the naira redesign policy of the immediate past Buhari administration.

Bawa is under investigation for alleged financial impropriety during his tenure as EFCC chairman and is currently in the custody of the DSS in Abuja.

According to sources, Bawa is being questioned by the DSS over allegations of mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds from the sale of forfeited assets.

His role in the currency redesign policy is, however, considered the primary offence.

The specific charges against Bawa have not been disclosed to the public as investigations are still on-going.

In addition to the interrogation, the DSS conducted searches at Bawa’s home in Gwarinpa, Abuja, and his office.

The searches were carried out with a search warrant and witnessed by his wife and children.

The source stated, “DSS operatives stormed the EFCC Headquarters in Jabi on Saturday to search the office of the suspended chairman. But they presented a search warrant. Another set of DSS operatives also searched Bawa’s home in Gwarinpa, and they met his wife and children in the house during the search.

“Bawa’s close associates at the office were also invited for questioning this week, and they’re being probed on allegations of mismanagement, misappropriation, and diversion of proceeds of forfeited assets sold under Bawa’s watch.”
