A devastating building collapse has occurred in Lagos, trapping an unspecified number of people beneath the debris.
The multi-storey structure, located on Oremeta Street in the Ojodu-Berger axis, collapsed on Saturday morning, housing the popular EqualRight Restaurant and being under construction.
According to multiple sources, the collapse happened around 8 am, catching occupants and passersby off guard.
An eyewitness described the building as “a bomb waiting to explode,” adding, “Anyone who knows that building should know that it was a bomb waiting to explode. I hardly go there to buy food because I was always scared the building would collapse while I’m there.”
The exact number of people trapped is still unknown, but rescue operations have begun.
“Right now, we cannot ascertain how many people are trapped under the rubbles, but emergency responders have begun rescue operations,” the eyewitness stated.
Lagos State Emergency Management Agency operatives have arrived at the scene and are leading the rescue efforts, awaiting support from other government agencies.
Concerned residents and onlookers have gathered at the scene, anxiously awaiting updates on the fate of those trapped.
