A devastating incident has occurred in Itasin-Imobi, Ijebu East Local Government Area of Ogun State, where a wandering elephant from a government-reserved forest attacked and killed a farmer, Musa Kalamu.

The attack happened on Monday, leaving the community in shock and demanding urgent intervention from the authorities.

According to eyewitnesses, the elephant invaded Kalamu’s farm and launched a gruesome attack, resulting in his death.

Residents have been complaining about the elephant’s frequent visits to their community, causing destruction to crops and fishing nets, and now, the animal has claimed a life.

“This elephant has been a menace in our community for over four years, and now it’s taken a life. We need the government to step in and address this issue before it’s too late,” a distraught resident exclaimed.

The people of Itasin-Imobi are calling on the state government and relevant authorities to take immediate action to prevent further escalation.

The State Commissioner for Forestry, Taiwo Oludotun, has confirmed the incident, assuring that the government will look into the matter.

A disturbing video that went viral on Tuesday showed Kalamu’s lifeless body, with visible marks of the elephant’s attack and parts of his intestine exposed. The locals in the video pleaded for government intervention, citing the elephant’s persistent threat to their community.

The community is in mourning, and the family of the deceased is seeking justice.
