BREAKING: Senate Reopens Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan’s Office at National Assembly

The Nigerian Senate has officially reopened the office of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central Senatorial District. The office, located in Suite 2.05 of the Senate Wing, had been sealed earlier this year following her six-month suspension over alleged misconduct, including protesting a reassignment of her seating position in the chamber.

Personnel from the Sergeant-at-Arms and security agencies unsealed the office on Tuesday, restoring her access to the National Assembly complex. This development allows Akpoti-Uduaghan to resume her legislative duties when plenary reconvenes on October 7, 2025.

The reopening follows a series of legal and procedural developments. Earlier this year, Akpoti-Uduaghan accused Senate President Godswill Akpabio of sexual harassment, allegations he denied. The Senate’s Ethics and Privileges Committee dismissed her petition on procedural grounds, leading to her suspension. However, a Federal High Court in July 2025 ruled that her suspension was excessive and ordered her reinstatement, while also fining her for contempt related to a gag order violation.

Despite the court ruling, Akpoti-Uduaghan faced challenges returning to the National Assembly, including being denied entry by security personnel. The unsealing of her office marks a significant step in restoring her full legislative responsibilities.

The move is seen as an effort to resolve the prolonged standoff between Akpoti-Uduaghan and Senate leadership, potentially restoring normalcy to her activities. With plenary sessions set to resume in October, observers will be watching closely to see how this development affects Senate dynamics and the wider political landscape.
