Boat Mishap Claims 25 Lives in Nguru LGA, Yobe

At least 25 persons have lost their lives following a boat accident in Garin Garbi, Nguru Local Government Area of Yobe State.

Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Friday when a boat conveying passengers capsized, resulting in multiple casualties. Fourteen passengers were reportedly rescued alive.

The Chairman of Nguru Local Government Area, Hon. Muhd M. Ahmed Mairami, confirmed the incident during a visit to the scene, where he sympathised with families of the victims.

Residents disclosed that the deceased included both men and women, adding that search and rescue operations were ongoing to recover the bodies of passengers still missing.

Local sources said security operatives, alongside community volunteers, have been mobilised to intensify rescue efforts in the affected area.

Hon. Mairami expressed deep sorrow over the tragedy and assured the community of the local government’s support for the affected families, while calling for prayers and calm as rescue operations continue.
