Asari Tokunbo, a prominent figure in the Niger Delta region, has sounded the alarm on the influx of Fulani migrants into Southern Nigeria.
In a stern warning, Tokunbo cautioned the people of the South to be vigilant, citing historical precedents that may repeat themselves.
“Brothers and Sisters, something serious is happening and our political elite and leaders do not care, they feel very unconcerned about it,” Tokunbo said.
“Everyday we hear stories of thousands and thousands of Fulanis being transported with any means of transportation down into our land, down into Ijew nation, down into Igbo nation…”
Tokunbo highlighted the occupation of fishing settlements and farming villages in Bayelsa by Fulani migrants.
“If you go to Bayelsa today, as I am talking, all the fishing settlements and the farming villages are occupied and controlled by these fellows.”
He also accused the Fulani migrants of having access to large sums of money, allegedly stolen by Abacha, and sharing it among themselves.
“A Minister in the federation said, sharing the money in the North because there are no poor people in the South and all our Governors kept quiet.”
Tokunbo warned that the influx of Fulani migrants is changing the demography of the South and may lead to war, destruction, and death.
“Remember Usman Danfodio, how they came to Sokoto, to Kano, to Katsina. What happened? They replaced the Abbie rulers, replacing the original people and took over the realms of power.”
“They are coming with war, destruction and death,” Tokunbo emphasized.
