A recent incident in Plateau State has sparked tension after 18 cows died following exposure to chemicals while grazing on a fumigated farmland in the Vwei community, Riyom Local Government Area.

The cattle, belonging to Dan’azumi Haruna, reportedly strayed into the treated farmland around noon on Wednesday.

Seven cows were slaughtered due to contamination, 11 died on the spot, and 15 others are receiving treatment for chemical exposure.

An Arewa influencer has said he his certain of a reprisal attack from the Fulanis, emphasizing the potential consequences of such incidents in the region.

According to his tweet on X, “Please take note of these killings, because when the Fulanis inevitably respond, I’m certain there will be reprisal attack, I don’t want to hear any victim narrate when it happens”

The situation shows ongoing challenges related to cattle grazing and land use in Nigeria.

The incident is currently under scrutiny, with concerns about the impact on local communities and the need for measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
