The Community Development Service (CDS) group of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Phalga Local Government Area of Rivers State, has pledged to collaborate with the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in the fight against corruption in schools and communities through rigorous sensitization.

It gave this pledge on Wednesday while on a courtesy visit to the Port Harcourt Zonal Command of the EFCC.

According to members of the group, they had developed plans and modalities to sensitize the general public on the mandate of the commission.

President of the group, Onyika Noel Sabastine, stated that they had developed an action plan on how to carry out their sensitization exercise, stressing that corps members were ready to work closely with the commission to sensitize school children, market women, private organizations and government establishments, on the ills of corruption.

β€œAs part of our commitment to communities and for national development, we are ready to support the EFCC’s vision and mission to create awareness about economic and financial crimes, having primaries and secondary school students as our target audience. We will ensure that the message of corruption is properly passed to the extent that criminalities, especially internet crimes are eliminated”, he said.

Responding, the Zonal Commander, Assistant Commander of the EFCC, ACE 1 Ahmed M. Ghali who spoke through ACE II Ishaya Dauda thanked members of the EFCC CDS group for coming to identify with the commission, emphasizing that such actions had demonstrated that they were not only catalysts in the fight against corruption, but also ambassadors.

“It is a welcome development and initiative to join in the fight against corruption. I am happy for your concern and hope for our dear country in the endless fight against corruption. I charged you corps members not to stop at schools alone, but extend this message even beyond your places of primary assignments including market places”, he said.

Ishaya further assured the corps members of a closer working relationship, stressing that the commission was open to guiding them on ways and techniques to execute their plans in sensitizing the public on issues bothering on economic and financial crimes.
