The Executive Chairman of Akure South Local Government, Dr. Gbenga Fasua, has launched the Social Welfare Programme for the Aged, a new initiative aimed at improving the wellbeing of senior citizens across the council area.

The programme, unveiled during an official flag-off ceremony in Akure, is designed to provide regular welfare support to elderly residents, enhance their access to essential needs, and improve their overall quality of life.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Fasua reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritising vulnerable groups, noting that the welfare of the aged remains a key component of his people-focused leadership agenda. He described the initiative as a practical step toward ensuring that elderly citizens receive consistent assistance and feel valued within the community.

The council chairman also emphasized that the programme will be sustained and expanded to reach more elderly residents in the coming months.

The launch attracted community stakeholders, beneficiaries, and local government officials, who commended the initiative as timely and impactful for aged residents within Akure South.
