AKPOTI TO CRITICS: MY INVITE TO AKPABIO WAS DUTY, NOT DRAMA

Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has clarified that her invitation to Senate President Godswill Akpabio and other lawmakers for the commissioning of projects in Kogi State was purely procedural and in line with legislative tradition, not a personal gesture.

The senator, who recently returned from suspension and is marking her second year in office this week, said the letter was transmitted through the presiding officer for official reading on the Senate floor, as required by parliamentary custom.

β€œToday, as is customary for announcements of such nature, I wrote a letter to the Senate through the presiding officer to the Senate President to read on the floor,” Akpoti said in a statement on Thursday.

She explained that the invitation was issued openly to ensure inclusiveness and transparency, adding that her focus remains on public service rather than personal celebration.

β€œI put out the invitation so it wouldn’t seem like I was celebrating in isolation. I’m a progressive person. Even with ongoing court cases, I continue to carry out my duties in the chamber and follow proper procedures,” she stated.

Akpoti noted that her adherence to due process reflects respect for the institution of the Senate and the principles of democratic governance.

Her remarks come amid public speculation following her invitation to Akpabio and other senators to attend the commissioning of constituency projects in her district.
